Creations
"Creations"...so much more than a single word. My mantra: words matter. I attempted to add a "portfolio" page to my website for nearly two years. The word "portfolio" tripped me up so much that I could not include my creative projects on my website. To me, a portfolio suggests expertise, training, and skill. I do not have a fine arts degree or professional training.
I studied science and education to have a reliable, respectable career and income source according to societal norms. However, my true self has always been a creative. My dream, to be an artist. I finger painted with my kids when they were young. Then a couple of years ago, I went to a few "paint and sips" and decided I liked to paint.
Last week, my fantastic website designer, Jamie, encouraged me to stop trying so hard to embrace the word "portfolio" and come up with another name for the page that stays true to me. I finally succumbed and asked her to call it "Creations." The flood gates of my mind opened, and I couldn't wait to send her photos of my "creations" from over the years. Words matter.
The expression of art and creativity is unlimited. To me, expressing creativity in a non-conventional form escalates its creativity! It takes an extra-creative mind to fulfill one's creative needs while caring for young children, working in a non-creative job, using the resources at hand without purchasing expensive supplies, and having the grit to express your creativity. As an adult, a close family member told me that I needed to take Home-Economics 101 and that I could not combine a floral and plaid patterned fabric in a project. The struggle is real!
Follow your heart, do what you love, and do more of that! Try and fail. It's okay. I beat myself up every day over so many things. Be kind to yourself, as kind as you are to others. When you shine, the world is a better place.

Do what you love, and do more of that.
One of my most fulfilling creations ever - our epic fence! I envisioned and designed it, purchased and picked up the lumber from a local mill, and with help from my mason friend (yeah, he works with stone), we built it!

During the summer of 2020, my impact drill was my best friend! After applying twenty-six gallons of a high-end stain that I special ordered from a paint store in Miami, FL, the abstract installation art piece/backyard fence was complete! It makes me, and Henry, happy every day!

Designing Spaces to Love...

Through my lifelong love of knitting, I've learned that true joy is in the process, not the final project. I love the feel and texture of high-quality yarn, the earthy, organic smell of wool, and the softness and sheen of fine silk and rayon blends. I savor the gorgeous colors and their endless combinations, the rhythm of the needles, and the creation of stitches. The stranding of multiple colors is intertwined in the back as the different colored yarn is 'carried' by the others, creating an aesthetically pleasing, visually intricate pattern on the front of the sweater, while organized chaos exists on the back.
In my closet are multiple projects, with their completed sweater pieces waiting for me to sew them together. Maybe I find joy and satisfaction solely in creating stitches from a ball of yarn. Or perhaps I don't believe that I am worthy of the beauty, warmth, and fulfillment of the completed sweater...and I know both are true.

I'm following my path, one step at a time....feeling grateful, finding joy, discovering my worthiness, and creating the life I want to live while supporting and walking alongside others on their unique journeys. I look forward to seeing you along the path.
